The Room Was Booked for One Night. What Police Found Afterward Is Still Unexplained.

July 9, 2023 — Asheville, North Carolina.

It was supposed to be a one-night stay.

A man calling himselfJordan Brooks checked into a short-term rental just outside the city — a cabin off a winding gravel road with no nearby neighbors, no cameras, and no cell signal.

He paid in full. Showed ID. Nothing seemed odd.

But 48 hours later, when the host stopped by to clean, Jordan was gone.

The bed was made. The towels unused.

Yet on the kitchen counter, there was an untouched sandwich, a half-full glass of orange juice — and a burner phone with no SIM card.

Then they found the note. Three words, scribbled in shaky handwriting:

“D

on’t trust mirrors.”

🧍‍♂️ No One Named Jordan Brooks

Local authorities were called in. The ID left behind? Fake.

The phone? Wiped.

Security cameras from nearby roads showed no arrival. No car.

Only outgoing footprints in the mud — but none coming in.

The cabin door was locked from the inside.

🔍 What They Found in the Attic

While investigating, officers noticed insulation on the floor of the bedroom closet. Curious, they popped the attic hatch.

Inside, they found:

  • A wool blanket
  • Three used candles
  • A Polaroid photo of someone sleeping in the same bed Jordan had used

There was no date. No caption.

And worst of all: the photo wasn’t taken by the cabin’s host.

🕯️ Unsolved — And Getting Stranger

Reddit sleuths jumped on the case. Some believe Jordan was never real — that the man used a false identity to hide from someone (or something). Others point to the mirror in the cabin’s hallway — which several previous guests had mentioned in online reviews:

“G

ives you a headache. Like the reflection’s a half-secondbehind.

“Creepy. I swear it showed me blinking when I didn’t.”

The mirror has since been removed. But the questions remain.

No one’s come forward. No missing person matches Jordan’s description.

And no one’s been able to explain why a place with no signal had dozens of failed outgoing calls to one number — all made between 3:00 and 3:17 AM that night.

📌 Still Unsolved. Still Active.

The cabin has been taken off the platform.

The owner refuses to speak to the press.

But once a month, someone still leaves flowers on the porch.

They never leave a note.
